PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new antimicrobial foamed resin that hardly elutes an antimicrobial agent and has excellent antimicrobial action without using an expensive metal. SOLUTION: The antimicrobial foamed resin comprises a foamed resin and an antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial agent is obtained by subjecting an antimicrobial polymer to graft polymerization on the surface of silica particle. Preferably the antimicrobial polymer is a cationic antimicrobial polymer. More preferably the cationic antimicrobial polymer has a quaternary phosphonium base. Preferably the particle diameter of the silica particle is≤100 nm and the foamed resin is any of an expanded polystyrene, expanded polyethylene and expanded polypropylene.
