PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize image quality by preventing false detection of a color sensor. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 is equipped with: an image forming part 43 forming a patch image on paper; a color sensor 55 detecting the density of the patch image formed by the image forming part 43; a moving member 55b moving the color sensor 55 in a direction orthogonal to a paper conveying direction; a position detection sensor 52 detecting a distance Z2 of the paper conveyed to the color sensor 55; and a control part 100 moving the color sensor 55 by the moving member 55b based on the distance Z2 detected by the position detection sensor 52.
