<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenol ester that is useful as an intermediate raw material for medicine, agrochemical, electronic material, polymer material etc., or a battery material, a nonaqueous electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery having excellent battery properties such as cycle properties etc., using the same and a lithium secondary battery using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The carboxylic acid di-tert-butylphenyl compound is obtained. In the nonaqueous electrolyte prepared by dissolving an electrolyte salt in a nonaqueous solvent, the nonaqueous electrolyte for lithium secondary battery comprises 0.01-10 wt.% of the carboxylic acid di-tert-butylphenyl compound based on the nonaqueous electrolyte.
