PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly correct the posture of a recording material or a carrying position in a width direction orthogonal to a carrying direction, even when the carried recording material diagonally travels. SOLUTION: The recording material carrying device comprises a positioning carrying member 2; an upstream side carrying member 3; a position detecting means 5 for detecting a width direction end position orthogonal to a carrying direction of the recording material while carried by the positioning carrying member 2; a skew correcting means 4 making a tip end of the recording material 1 carried by the upstream side carrying member 3 abut on the positioning carrying member 2 in a stopping state, and correcting the skew of the recording material 1; and a carrying position correcting means 6 carrying the recording material 1 after skew correction by the skew correcting means 4 from a positioning carrying member position to a position detecting means position by the positioning carrying member 2, moving the positioning carrying member 2 in an axial direction thereof according to difference between a detection result by a position detecting means 5 and the width direction side edge position of the recording material 1 previously decided according to the size and the carrying posture of the recording material 1, and correcting the carrying position of the recording material 1.
