PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector and a cooling method of a projector, which make viewing surroundings comfortable. SOLUTION: The projector 1 includes: an input section 12 in which content information including speech information is input; a speech analysis circuit 14 for analyzing a volume level from a playback start time point to a time point after predetermined playback period, based on the speech information; a fan control signal generation means which generates a fan control signal for controlling driving of a cooling fan 23 from the playback start time point to the time point after predetermined playback period, according to the analyzed volume level; a light source control signal generation means which generates a light source control signal for controlling output of a light source lamp from the playback start time point to the time point after predetermined playback period, according to the analyzed volume level; a fan control circuit 22 for controlling the operation of the cooling fan 23, based on the fan control signal; and a light amount adjusting circuit 24 for controlling output of the light source lamp, based on the light source control signal.
