PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the chance of generating brittle fracture in an outer coupling member when a high load or an impact load is applied to a constant velocity universal joint. SOLUTION: An outer coupling member 2b is mounted on a torque-transmitting constant velocity universal joint with angle displacement allowed via rolling bodies 32 between itself and an internal coupling member 3, and is formed with a truck groove 25 for housing the rolling bodies 32 on an internal diametral surface. The outer coupling member 2b is provided with a hardfacing layer S by applying a carburizing hardening process to the internal diametral surface 22 of the outer coupling member 2, and besides a tempered layer S1 not subjected to the carburizing hardening process is formed by applying an anti-carburizing process to at least part of the outer diametral surface 21.
