PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asbestos treatment apparatus capable of safely treating asbestos equipped with a spacious and deep slug bath so that a large amount of asbestos can thoroughly be melted, allowing an operator to check the state of molten asbestos from a remote position. SOLUTION: The asbestos treatment apparatus is constituted of a feed chute 20 for feeding asbestos 3 contained in a sack into a ceiling section of a melting furnace 10 with the feed chute 20 constituted of a pipe having an inner diameter at least 1.5 times as large as the maximum width of the sack filled with asbestos 3 and equipped with a tilting part 21 disposed midway, an inspection camera 30 mounted on the tilting part 21 of the feed chute 20, a pair of automatic dampers 22 each equipped with a cooling mechanism 22z therefor which dampers alternately open or close a feed path of the asbestos 3 by way of opening one while closing the other, and a joint part covered with heat-resistant metal 28 of the feed chute 20 and the ceiling section of the melting furnace 10.
