PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner having a high usability in such a manner that a proper self-traveling control is performed depending on the operation by a user and the speed of the vacuum cleaner main body regardless of the kind-state of a floor surface. SOLUTION: A travelling unit 11 equipped with a driving means 14 is installed on at least one of a plurality of wheels which are installed on this electric vacuum cleaner main body. The electric vacuum cleaner has a traveling speed operation means 18 which calculates the speed by detecting a rotation number from the traveling unit 11. When a fact that the electric vacuum cleaner main body 1 is moved by an external force is judged by a manual speed judging means 20, the self-traveling of the electric vacuum cleaner main body 1 is performed. At the same time, the braking of the wheels is performed by the driving motor 14 when the speed of the self-traveling becomes larger than a pre-set specified value by judging the self-traveling speed.
