METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROCESSING VIDEO DATA USING CARTOONIZATION

Important issues to be considered with respect to video data are bandwidth consumption and video quality, which greatly affects the attraction to the end user. For an optimization of both, there is a need to differ between unimportant and important detail information in videos, and to preserve the important while discarding the unimportant detail information. One solution is video cartoonization. A method for processing video data comprises edge processing a received image and overlaying the edge processed image to the received image, wherein the video data are cartoonized. A respective cartoonization device can be widely used, for example within monitoring systems, broadcast systems, video transmitters, video receivers and others.
