PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a steering feeling close to that of a normal condition even during failure of a torque sensor. SOLUTION: In the control method of the electric steering device for controlling a steering assist amount in response to steering torque input by a driver and a differential value of the steering torque, during failure of a steering torque sensor 16, control gain based on a differential value of the steering torque is set larger than that of a normal condition of the steering torque sensor 16. During failure of the steering torque sensor 16, the steering torque is estimated based on a vehicle speed, a yaw rate, and a steering angle obtained through an in-vehicle LAN, and control of the steering assist amount is performed based on the estimated steering torque and the differential value of the estimated steering torque.
