PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a magnetic recording medium which facilitates connection between a head retreating section and a storage area in movement of a magnetic head in loading/unloading and to provide the magnetic recording medium using the substrate. SOLUTION: An inside portion at a predetermined distance from a periphery edge 8 on at least one side face of a resin substrate of a disk shape having a through hole 4 at the center, has a shape to separate gradually toward the outside from a reference plane A which crosses a through hole at a face of direction orthogonal to a direction of thickness of the substrate.
