The seal system consists of a stainless steel holder (24) with a T-section recess to receive a joint (26) of an intumescent material that is resistant to flames, hot gases and radiation. The holder is fitted detachably between two chambers (4) of a nuclear plant that need to be isolated from one another, e.g. in a transfer unit (6) with a partition (10) and a transfer mechanism (8). The joint can be made, for example, in three sections positioned along a cylindrical generating line of the partition corresponding to the outer surface of the transfer mechanism. The latter has an inner cavity (12) with access through an opening (14) that can be positioned to face either of the two chambers.
