Provided is a fuel cell operation method which can suppress an abrupt increase of an electrode potential of a fuel cell cathode so as to suppress degradation of the cathode, which in turn increases the service life of the fuel cell. A concentration reduction operation is performed as follows. In a start operation, concentration of oxygen introduced to the cathode of the fuel cell is set to be lower than the concentration of oxygen introduced to the cathode during a stationary operation, so as to suppress increase of the electrode potential of the cathode. |
