A hot-plate includes sheathed wire electric heater 1 pivoted on a support 2 carrying plug-in terminals 8 to engage sockets on a supporting frame, e.g. on a cooker and a reflector 3, the support comprises a metal plate 2 of generally circular shape providing at diametrically opposite regions along its periphery a housing 7 for the plug-in terminals 8 and a pair of ears 11 perpendicular to the plane of the plate and forming a pivotal support for the heater; a pressed metal casing 20 between the ears forms a protection for the terminal ends 23 of the heater and for the conductors 24 connected to the ends 23 and the plug-in terminals 8. The housing 7 is formed by bending a flange on the plate 2 up and over at 13 and down at the edges 14, 17 to the bottom of which is welded a closure plate 15 apertured for the passage of the pin plugs 8 in insulators 16 and of an earthing pin 18 in an insulating bush 19. The heater 1 is carried on a spider 28 resting on indented projections 27 within an upward flange 26 of the reflector 3. The bent-down ends 12 of the heater are brazed into a steel box 20 and are pivoted between ears: 11 bent up from a wide notch in the plate 2. The ends of the conductors 24 from the pins 8 pass through apertures in a refractory bar 21 in the box 20 to the terminal ends 23 of the heater. The metal plate 2 has on its lower side brackets 25 supporting the hotplate on a cooker and has a central opening 4 in which engages a flanged rim 5 of reflector 3, which may be of glass or enamelled steel.
