High availability communications system

The system has communication connections (PC1, PC2) arranged between communication stations. The connection has two channels for transmitting payload data telegrams, where the channels are utilized as backup and primary channels for communication. A status indicator in the telegrams indicates information about the primary or backup channel at specific time point. The communication stations change a status from the primary channel to the backup channel without a delay during a receipt of the payload data telegrams. An independent claim is also included for a method for providing reliable communication between communication stations.
