A digital image processing apparatus is provided to reduce the power consumption by turning off a display device or making it operated in a power saving mode. In a body(20), a lens barrel which receives images from the outside and an image pickup device are mounted, and at the outside of the body, a shutter release button(26), a shutter sensor(27) and a display panel(25) are mounted. The shutter release button operates a shutter mounted within the body by the manipulation of a user. The shutter sensor senses a selection from the outside. In case the shutter sensor is not selected, a display panel is operated in a power saving mode. The shutter sensor is arranged on the shutter release button to automatically sense when the user puts his/her finger on the shutter release button.
