A gastight film completely encases a component (9) which has hollow chambers (12,13,14). The gastight film surrounds the component with the hollow chambers in a gastight manner after application of a vacuum to evacuate the hollow chambers of the component. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an aircraft side fairing using a component with hollow chambers.
