<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a gate electrode structure capable of achieving the equalization of luminance by a low drive voltage and a flat display. <P>SOLUTION: A gate electrode 13 is formed by the flat plate of a conductor. Thus, the opening of the gate electrode 13 can be divided and can reduce the diameter of the opening of the gate electrode 13. As a result, the thickness of a second insulating layer 11 is made thin, that is, the distance between the gate electrode 13 and the cathode 110 can be shortened.
