Agent useful for treating influenza comprises ambroxol and bromhexine or their salts ACTIVITY : Virucide. Mice infected with influenza virus were treated with 30 mg/kg/day of ambroxol. After 4 days, levels of cytokines in fluids was 19.2 (28.9) for tumor necrosis factor-alpha; 118.6 (184.7) for interleukin 12; 10.2 (7.1) for interferon-gamma; and 433.5 (216.2) for interleukin 6. (Results in brackets are for untreated controls; the figures except for interferon-gamma are significant at P(0.02)).
