[Also in Group XXXIV] In a method of making a roller bearing cage at least one of the side rings of the cage is formed on its inner side, with curviform grooves, and on its outer side with at least one annular groove, the side ring being pierced at the points where the grooves cross each other. The cage comprises side rings 45, Fig. 5, having curviform grooves 46 and annular grooves 47. the side rings being secured together by roller spacing members 42 which are located in the grooves 46 and riveted at 44. The spacing members may be S-shaped, or they may be integral with one of the side rings. In a modification, Figs. 12, 13, the side rings 75, and the spacing members 72 are formed from sheet-metal. The spacing members are provided with ridges 79, 710, and the side rings have ridges 713, 714, which, when grooves 76 are milled to the bottom of the trough between the ridges, provide holes 716 through which the ends of the spacing members protrude and are then riveted by an annular riveting tool 717. The curviform grooves in the side rings are formed by end mills which are rotated about the axes corresponding to the axes of the rollers when assembled.</p> |
