An 8-shift automatic transmission is provided to simplify the lubrication structure by positioning the first clutch and the third clutch between the complex planetary gear set and the output axis. A single pinion planetary gear set(PG1) comprises the first ring gear(R1), the first sun gear(S1), and the first planetary carrier(PC1). A double pinion planetary gear set(PG2) comprises the first brake(B1), the second ring gear(R2), the second sun gear(S2), and the second planet carrier(PC2). A complex planetary gear set(PG3) comprises a short sun gear(SS), the short pinion(SP), the long sun gear(LS), the long pinion(LP), and the third long gear(R3). The first clutch(C1) and the third clutch(C3) are positioned between the complex planetary gear set and an output axis(40). The second clutch(C2) and the fourth clutch(C4) are positioned between the double pinion planetary gear set and the compound planetary gear set.
