A method for manufacturing lactate polymer or hydroxyalkanoate-lactate copolymers from sucrose is provided to manufacture efficiently the lactate polymer or the copolymer which is cheap substrate. A method for manufacturing lactate polymer or hydroxyalkanoate-lactate copolymers from sucrose includes steps of: cultivating cell or plant under environment containing lactate and sucrose or lactate, sucrose and hydroxyalkanoate; and collecting the lactate polymer or the hydroxyalkanoate-lactate copolymers from the cell or the plant. The cell or the plant has abilities producing the lactate polymer or the hydroxyalkanoate-lactate copolymers using sucrose as a substrate.
