A wire rod is provided to prevent the generation of disconnection even if the drawing speed is high, to realize long life time and excellent wire drawability. A wire rod having excellent wire drawability comprises C: 0.65-0.75 mass %, Si: 0.1-0.5 mass %, Mn: 0.1-0.6 mass %, P: 0 mass % excess and 0.015 mass % or less, S: 0 mass % excess and 0.015 mass % less, N: 0 mass % excess and 0.004 mass % or less, Al: 0 mass % excess and 0.003 mass % or less, O: 0 mass % excess and 0.003 mass % or less and the balance of iron and inevitable impurities. The wire rod has tensile strength of 960 MPa or less and the percent reduction in area of 40 % or more.
