Disclosed is a novel organic zinc catalyst which can show an extremely high polymerization activity in a reaction for producing a poly(alkylene carbonate) from carbon dioxide and an epoxide. Also disclosed is a process for production of a poly(alkylene carbonate) using the catalyst. The organic zinc catalyst can be used in a reaction for producing a poly(alkylene carbonate) from carbon dioxide and an epoxide. The catalyst is produced by reacting a zinc compound, an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid with one another, wherein the aliphatic monocarboxylic acid is used at a proportion of 0.0001 to 0.1 by mole relative to the amount of the aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. |
