A method and a device for controlling an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) is provided to generate an EPG by using broadcasting program information that a user inputs and to display the EPG on a screen according to a user's request. A memory unit(103) receives and stores a broadcasting program for which EPG information is not provided. An EPG generator(121) extracts additional information of the received broadcasting program through a tuner(108), detects the information of the inputted broadcasting program, and then configures an EPG by combining the information of the received broadcasting program with the information of the inputted broadcasting program. A controller(102) provides an OSD when a preferred program setup signal of the broadcasting program for which the EPG information is provided is inputted, and displays the EPG information on a screen when receiving a display request of the EPG. |
