A communication method using a USB(Universal Serial Bus) and a communication apparatus thereof are provided to change the communication speed in the middle of the communication using the USB. A device is connected to a host and is connected to a power source through an external source or USB(S10). The reset of the device is performed (S20). A unique address is allocated to the device (S30). If the driving of a device driver is finished, the host gives a configuration setup order to set up configuration. The setup with the device is terminated, and then the data communication is actually performed in a high speed mode(S50). A data transmission error rate for determining whether to change a transmission rate is detected and compared with a preset threshold value(S60). If the detected transmission error rate is larger than the threshold value, the high speed mode is terminated in a state that data transmission is unstable(S70).
