<p>The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0932815/IV(a)/1> (wherein R1 and R2 each represent a C1-4 alkyl group and n may be 1 or 2), their acid addition salts and the preparation thereof by condensing a compound of the general formula <FORM:0932815/IV(a)/2> with a compound of the general formula <FORM:0932815/IV(a)/3> (wherein Hal represents a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom) and if desired converting the base into an acid addition salt. 3-Alkylsulphinylphenothiazines are prepared by acetylating a 3-alkylmercaptophenothiazine, oxidising the 10-acetyl compound to 10-acetyl-3-alkylsulphinylphenothiazine and hydrolysing off the acetyl group. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds of the first general formula above in admixture with a pharmaceutical carrier or diluent. Certain of the compounds show tranquillising properties.</p> |
