A method and an apparatus for modeling room impulse response are provided to precisely express room sound characteristics at the time of sound regeneration by reducing the number of parameters while keeping precision. A method for modeling room impulse response includes the steps of detecting room impulse response according to sound pressure signals obtained by a microphone(710), determining boundaries between a plurality of zones in a time area to separate the room impulse response into the zones(720), and modeling the room impulse response by employing different modeling techniques per zone(730).
