An image processing apparatus, a method thereof, and an LCD overdrive system using the same are provided to obtain a predetermined compression rate with regard to both a normal image and a synthesizing image, thereby preventing deterioration of image quality such as blurring and ringing phenomena. A pixel value in a unit image block is arranged(210). A difference between adjacent pixel values is calculated by using the pixel value arranged in a corresponding macro block(220). A difference value is re-arranged(230). A two level image which is divided into a background and a foreground based on the maximum difference value in the corresponding macro block(240). When the two level image exists, a pixel value is divided into a high group and a low group and deviation between two groups is calculated(250).
