A balancing and closing device for a door pivoting about a horizontal axis comprises a hinge member fixed to the door, a support member fixed to the opening, and a coil spring connected between the members, the hinge member being pivoted to the support member by a pin and open-ended-slot arrangement and the spring engages an open-ended slot in the hinge member. A stirrup member 15 is pivoted at 9 to a support member 5 secured to the body 13 of a cabinet and slidably carries a spring urged rod 14 which has at its outer end a pin 16 engaging in a notch in a hinge member 12 attached to the door 4. The hinge member carries a pivot shaft 7 which engages a notch in the support member. A stop 11 limits the opening movement of the door but may be withdrawn to allow the door to move past to allow the latter to be disengaged. In another embodiment the members 14 and 15 are replaced by a tension spring pivoted at 9 to the support and connected to the shaft 16 by means of a turn buckle. |
