A lithium battery using an aqueous electrolyte is provided to limit the danger of the severe discharge of hydrogen and to increase the voltage generated at a cell output power. A lithium battery comprises a cell which comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte comprising a lithium salt aqueous solution, wherein the electrolyte has a pH of 14 or more, the positive electrode has a lithium intercalation potential more than 3.4 V, and the negative electrode has a lithium intercalation potential of 2.2 V or less. |
