PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ketal bisphenol having excellent polymerization activity and long-term stability and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The ketal bisphenol contains a stabilizer and is represented by the formula (1). The stabilizer is at least one kind selected from an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, carbonate or hydrogencarbonate, an organic amine, ammonia and an alkali metal salt or an alkaline earth metal salt of a ketal bisphenol represented by the formula (1) (X<SB>1</SB>-X<SB>4</SB>are each independently H, a 1-4C straight-chain or branched-chain hydrocarbon group or an alkoxy group; R<SB>1</SB>-R<SB>4</SB>are each independently H or a 1-4C straight-chain or branched-chain hydrocarbon group; A is an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; E is a single bond, or a methylene or ethylene chain which is nonsubstituted or substituted with a 1-4C straight-chain or branched-chain hydrocarbon group).
