PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small, lightweight, highly efficient, coherent and frequency variable electromagnetic wave oscillation apparatus capable of continuous oscillation and having variable intensity and oscillation frequency in a THz region band. SOLUTION: This terahertz band electromagnetic wave oscillation apparatus is formed of a single crystal of a stratified superconductor BSCCO having a multilayer-type Josephson junction, and excites an electromagnetic cavity resonance. Here, the electromagnetic cavity resonance is Fabry-Perot cavity resonance, and no external application of a magnetic field is needed. Further, the single crystal of the BSCCO has a size of 300×80×1μm<SP>3</SP>as the typical value, and can carry out the oscillation of a coherent and continuous electromagnetic wave having an intensity of≥50 nw in a 0.6 THz band.
