The cross beam has a vehicle-sided shaft (1) and a free shaft section (3), where the cross beam is completely or partially made of fiber composite material. An offset is provided between the shaft and the shaft section, where the cross beam is made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic, carbon reinforced plastic or a composite material under utilization of aramide fibers. The cross beam is formed of a thin-walled tubular section as a core with the fiber composite material, where a thermosetting polymer matrix is provided as a matrix for the fiber composite material.
