The satellite (10) has a camera recording memory (28) for storing a recording of a digital earth camera cloud camera (20) during a separation phase, where no contact to a base station exists in the separation phase. A cloud range analyzer (24) detects the cloud range in the recording made by the earth cloud camera. A decision module (26) is connected with the cloud range analyzer, where the decision module decides about the storage of the recording of the earth cloud camera in the memory based on the cloud range. An independent claim is also included for a method for storing a camera recording of an earth cloud camera of an artificial non-stationary earth observation satellite.
