<p>The calender (1) has a driven guide roll (3) for an endless band (2), which form an elongated nip (7) for handling of a goods web (10) with an impression roller (4) that is partially wound by the endless band. A drive motor (5) of the guide roll and a drive motor (6) of the impression roller consist of a controller (9), which has non-constant torque of the drive motor during glazing. The difference speed between the band speed and the peripheral speed of the impression roller surface, constantly varies in operation between positive and negative values. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a band calender.</p>
