<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet identification device accurately recognizing if a transfer path is open or an abnormality occurs in a photo sensor by a photo sensor for bill identification. <P>SOLUTION: A bill transfer path 10 of the paper sheet identification device 1 is switched over to an open position when an open and close unit 4 is opened. Transmission type photo sensors 11 to 14 are arranged on the bill transfer path 10. A monitoring unit for monitoring if the open and close unit 4 is open, based on output from the transmission type photo sensors 11 to 14, determines that the open and close unit 4 is in the open state when all the detection signal levels of the transmission type photo sensors 11 to 14 are below a reference value S for identifying the opening and closing. In the opposite case, it determines that the open and close unit 4 is in the closed state, and also determines that an abnormality such as a failure occurs in any one of the transmission type photo sensors 11 to 14 when the detection signal levels appears both above and below the reference value S for identifying the opening and closing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
