PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having a satisfactory display grade irrespective of a signal input from an external signal source to a controller. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a pair of substrates 1, 2 facing each other, a liquid crystal layer LQ held in between the pair of the substrates 1, 2, the display section DYP composed of a plurality of display pixels PX arranged in a matrix form, and the controller CTR for receiving a video signal from the external signal source SS. The controller CTR has a detection means 20 which detects an undefined period when the video signal ID input from the external signal source SS is unstable and which makes the prescribed video be displayed in the display section DYP irrespective of the video signal ID in the undefined period.
