PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plug connector for allowing the lock and insertion of a relatively thick and thus relatively rigid cable as well as a thin cable such as a braided cable having a relatively small cross section, which is easily buckled when sliding stress is applied thereto in the longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: In the plug connector, male and female plug contacts are arranged up and down or side by side in the state that either one is stored in a receiving hole so that its front end is served as a male or female plug attachment and its rear end is connected to the cable. The contact is locked and inserted into an insulator, and a return stopper protruded into the receiving hole at a return stop position engages the male or female plug contact to be inserted against return stopping operation, behind its return stop collar. A thick cable as well as a thin braided cable can be locked and inserted therein, and so the return stopper is inserted into the receiving hole at two continuous return stop steps or positions. The deflecting resistance of the return stopper to the male or female plug contact, when placed on a first position, namely, a temporary locking position, is smaller than in the case of putting the male or female plug contact into the following second final locking position.
