PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer produced by a method using a polyhydroxy compound as the quenching agent in a polymerization process. SOLUTION: This method is for deactivating an active polymerization mixture, where a polyhydroxy copmpound is introduced in the active polymerization mixture. The polyhydroxy compound is selected from the group consisting of a dihydroxy compound, a trihydroxy compound, a tetrahydroxy compound and multihydroxy compound, and also the polyhydroxy compound is selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic polyhydroxy compound, an alicyclic polyhydroxy compound and an aromatic polyhydroxy compound.
