PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of enhancing space efficiency by reducing a useless space between the vicinity on a downstream side in a transfer material conveying direction relative to a secondary transfer part of an intermediate transfer belt and a fixing device. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer belt 4 is installed by a secondary transfer counter roller 13 provided in the secondary transfer part and a first driven roller 14 provided on the downstream side in a belt moving direction of the secondary transfer counter roller 13 out of a plurality of rollers on which the intermediate transfer belt 4 is tensioned and laid, so as to provide an area 4a tensioned and laid nearly perpendicularly toward the downstream side from the upstream side in the belt moving direction relative to the secondary transfer counter roller 13, and to make at least a part of the fixing device 5 on the secondary transfer part side opposed to the area 4a of the intermediate transfer belt 4 tensioned and laid nearly perpendicularly.
