PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a warm-up time, to reduce uneven temperature, to suppress excessive temperature rise at an area beyond the width of a recording material when a narrow recording material is made to continuously pass, and to reduce power consumption, in a fixing device using a heat generating means including a static magnetic material. SOLUTION: A heat generating means 210 includes: a high-permeability conductive layer 214 composed of the static magnetic material whose magnetism is held at a normal temperature, but, eliminated when the temperature becomes equal to or higher than a prescribed temperature; and a thin, non-magnetic conductive layer 215. Further, the non-magnetic conductive layer 215 is made slightly wider than the paper passage width of the recording material, and also, narrower than the high-permeability conductive layer 214.
