The method involves determining each partial structure such as lorry (1), trailer (2) and cross beam (4), from a measuring point quantity based on a model of an object, which describes the partial structures of the object, while the part structures are extracted and located by measuring points. The partial structure determined in one extraction step is extracted and located from the partial structures determined in preceding extraction steps. A position of the object and/or parts of the object is determined using a part of the determined partial structures. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for computer-aided localization of an object (2) a computer program product with a machine readable medium storing a program code for executing a method for computer-aided localization of an object.
