SOLUTION: The induction coil 21 arranged around the position detection range of a medical instrument 10 in detecting a position permits accurate position detection free from an unnecessary influence of a second magnetic field by computing an unnecessary second magnetic field induced and caused at the positions of magnetic field sensors 411to 41nby the action of a first magnetic filed by a magnetic field generation section 30 and computing correction magnetic field information by reducing the second magnetic field from the first magnetic field detected by the magnetic field sensors 411to 41nand permits numerical information having a correlation with the second magnetic field induced and caused at the position of the magnetic field sensors 411to 41nto be processed at high speed by reducing the amount of computations carried out each time by carrying out the computation of the second magnetic field by using previously stored LUT 52x, 52yand 52z.
