A continuous mixing apparatus for producing a mix in which the rates of the components is constant, this rate being pre-adjustable, comprises a plurality of supply means for various components each associated with conveying means feeding the components to the mixer in a continuous manner, regulating means for controlling the rates of feed of the components to the mixer, indicating means for indicating the rate of delivery of the components by. the conveying means and infinitely variable control means enabling each of the regulating means to be adjusted according to the indications of the indicating means. An apparatus for use in making bituminous roads, is described, including a tank 20 for liquid bituminous binder which is fed to the mixer 19 by a pipe 22 and gear pump 13 controlled by an infinitely variable gear 14, a container 40 for filler which is fed by a bucket wheel 9 controlled by an infinitely variable gear 10 and a worm 8 to the mixer 19, and three containers 30 (only one of which is shown) for coarse stone chips, fine stone chips and sand which are fed by vibrating shoots 4 controlled by infinitely variable gears 5, and belt conveyers 1, 2, 3 to the mixer 19. Indicators 6, 11, 16 are associated with the shoots 4, bucket wheel 9 and a through flow meter in the pipe 22 respectively. Each indicator acts on the corresponding gear 5, 10, 14 to correct any deviation from the pre-adjusted rate of delivery, and is also associated with an indicating instrument 7, 12, 17 on a control panel. A quantity recorder 21 on the panel is associated with each indicating instrument so as to record the quantity of material delivered as a function of time.
