摘要 #CMT# #/CMT# To improve the quality of electroplating, the electrolyte is treated with an oxidizing agent. This is gaseous, and preferably contains ozone. An alkaline zinc alloying bath is used to plate zinc alloys. It contains a zinc-nickel electrolyte. In addition, irradiation with ultraviolet light is applied. An ion exchange membrane used, separates the cathode from the anode. Current densities of 0.01 - 20 A/dm 2>are used in the process. #CMT# : #/CMT# The process stages are as follows. The electroplating bath is prepared. The functional layer is electroplated onto the workpiece, using a known process. A fraction of the electrolyte is extracted and sent to an ozone treatment unit. Ozone is supplied to the electrolyte extracted. If appropriate, this treated electrolyte is also subjected to ultraviolet radiation. The treated electrolyte is then recycled to the electrolytic plating bath. The treatment process regenerates the electrolyte. The plant used, includes the electroplating bath (5), and a line (6) for pumping (3) a fraction of the electrolyte into the bypass (7). An ozone generator (2) is coupled to a compressed air pump (1), to pump the oxidizing gas into the bypass. An ultraviolet light unit (4) is also included at the bypass. A line (8) returns treated electrolyte to the electroplating bath. To improve the quality of electroplated layers, especially zinc-nickel layers (claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Conventional universal electrolytes for suspension- or drum plating have complex compositions, sometimes with 5 or more additives. These must be monitored and replenished, in a costly, laborious operation. The current yield is often small. These problems are all overcome by the new method. Treatment with the gaseous, strongly-oxidizing agent, markedly improves deposition quality in comparison with conventional methods. Electrolyte quality is maintained and spent baths are successfully regenerated. When the electrolyte is treated, gray haze is eliminated and the plated layer thickness starts to increase. As it increases, coarse crystalline deposition is shifted into regions of higher current density. The layers deposited are shiny and without coarse crystalline deposits.
