<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition for a cellulosic product such as paper, which comprises water-based semi-crystalline vinyl acetate-ethylene polymer emulsions which contain crystalline ethylene segments and are useful for imparting oil, grease, solvent, water, and moisture vapor resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The semi-crystalline water-based polymer emulsions are prepared by direct water-based free radical emulsion polymerization of ethylene with a comonomer such as vinyl acetate and have a crystalline melting point and heat of crystal fusion ranging from 5 to 100 J/g. The semi-crystalline water-based emulsion polymers can be used directly as a coating for the cellulosic product such as paper and a paperboard in order to impart oil, grease, solvent, water, and moisture vapor resistance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
