PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light irradiation apparatus for rheumatism treatment which is easy to handle without taking the risk of side reaction by a biological formulation. SOLUTION: Joint-related cells centering on macrophage 3 are irradiated with treatment light 12 from a light emitting element and at least the production of IL-1β(8) and IL-6(10) produced from the joint-related cells is suppressed. By that, by suppressing the surplus production of TNF-α(9) and IL-1β(8) happening inside the joint of a patient suffering from rheumatism by irradiating a joint part with light, inflammation is suppressed. That is, since the production of TNT-α(9) of the whole body is not suppressed, various kinds of side reaction due to lack of TNF-α(9) observed in infliximab treatment do not occur. In the meantime, in the aspect of treatment costs, an expensive chemical is not used, a light source not to be reduced from use is repeatedly used, and thus an inexpensive treatment method is provided.
