<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device and a detection method which are capable of detecting various objects such as blood vessels with a high sensitivity and a high resolution on the basis of a new principle and have less restrictions on size and design of the device. <P>SOLUTION: The detection device includes: a plurality of electrodes 11 which comprises fundamental units each of which comprises four electrodes A to D disposed at vertexes of a square, and are arranged in a matrix at equal spacing in a first direction and a second direction orthogonal to each other on one plane; and electric field detection devices 13 which detect electric fields on lines which pass centers of four electrodes A to D and are perpendicular to the one plane. Voltages of opposite phases are applied to two electrodes nearest to each other out of four electrodes A to D. Alternatively, a plurality of electrodes are divided into a plurality of blocks each of which comprises n×n (n is an integer equal to or larger than 2) electrodes, wherein four blocks disposed at vertexes of a square are a fundamental unit, and voltages of opposite phases are applied to two blocks nearest to each other out of four blocks. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
