PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read-out device which can prevent a decline in read-out quality of an original by synthesizing signals of a plurality of photoelectric converters with no time lag and thereby doubling electric charges which will become read-out signals when the sub-scanning speed is increased in reading out the original at a low resolution. SOLUTION: The image read-out device includes: CCD pairs 8a, each having two lines of photo diode series for reading out an original; a motor driving circuit 14 for sub-scanning the original; and adders 9a, each of which superimposes and synthesizes two outputs from the corresponding CCD pair 8a with a predetermined time lag. When a control portion 11 receives an instruction to read out at a low resolution equivalent to a half of a high resolution from a resolution switch 12a, it controls in such a manner that the two outputs from the CCD pair 8a may be added by the adder 9a with no time lag to double the sub-scanning speed by the motor driving circuit 14.
